> LLM Optimisation is the technical layer that makes a website ingestible by language models, covering AI crawler access, llms.txt, markdown mirrors, a connected schema graph and plain text facts.

## Making your site machine readable on purpose

LLM Optimisation is the least visible of our AI services and often the one that unblocks the rest. It is concerned with a narrow question: when a language model or its crawler reaches your site, does it come away with clean, unambiguous, attributable facts?

For most websites the answer is no. Key information sits inside images. Prices live in a widget loaded after the page renders. The same service is called three different things on three pages. There is no machine readable statement of who you are, where you operate or what you charge. The model does its best, gets it partly wrong, and either hedges or names someone clearer.

## Crawlers you have probably never configured

GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google Extended and others request your pages. Many sites block them by accident through an inherited robots file or a security plugin, then wonder why they never appear in assistant answers. Others allow everything without knowing what is being taken. Deciding that deliberately, per crawler, is part of this service.

## What the work involves

Mostly plumbing, and it is the reason the rest of the AI work lands.

### Crawler access policy

A deliberate decision on which AI crawlers may read your site, implemented correctly in robots directives and verified by log inspection rather than assumed. We also check nothing upstream, such as a firewall or CDN rule, is silently blocking them.

### llms.txt and clean mirrors

A plain text index of your key pages and facts, plus markdown mirrors of important content stripped of navigation, pop ups and scripts. This gives a model a low noise version of your site to work from instead of parsing a page built for humans.

### A connected schema graph

Not isolated snippets on individual pages but a linked graph: your organisation, its services, its location, its reviews and its articles, each referencing the others by identifier. Connected entities are far easier to reason about than loose fragments.

### Text that exists as text

Prices, opening hours, service areas and qualifications moved out of images, sliders and scripts and into readable HTML. Terminology standardised so one service has one name across the whole site.

### Attribution signals

Clear authorship, dates, and citable source pages, so when a model uses your content it has something to attribute. Unattributed content is used without benefit to you.

## A note on what you allow

Opening your site to AI crawlers is a commercial decision, not a purely technical one. For a local service business the trade is usually straightforward, since visibility in assistant answers is worth more than the content itself. For a business whose content is the product, it is not. We will walk you through it rather than setting a default and moving on.

### We verify, not assume

Every change is confirmed against server logs and live validators, because robots files frequently do not do what people think they do.

### Nothing proprietary exposed

Client areas, pricing calculators and gated material stay closed. Only what you want quoted is made easy to quote.

## Questions

Is llms.txt an actual standard? It is a proposed convention, not a ratified standard, and support varies. It is cheap to implement and does no harm, so we ship it as part of the package while being clear that the schema graph and clean HTML do the heavier lifting.

Should I block AI crawlers to protect my content? If your content is your product, quite possibly. If you are a local service business trying to be recommended, blocking them removes you from the answers your customers are reading. We will give you a recommendation and the reasoning, then implement whichever you choose.

Will this help my Google rankings too?Usually yes, as a side effect. Clean markup, readable text and consistent terminology are good classic SEO. That is not the goal of this service, but it is a reliable by-product.
